Kazimir (Kaz) Boyle was born in Chicago in 1976. He grew up playing the trombone and began teaching himself to compose when his family bought a used upright piano. His first piece was “Harley’s Last Swing, a tone poem for his high school’s jazz band.

Kaz received his Bachelor of Music in Composition at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he studied under P.Q.Phan, Scott Wyatt, John Melby and Zack Browning. While at the U of I, Kaz was honored with a Composition Division Achieve- ment Award and a commission by the Cinema Department to create new music for the 1922 Austrian silent film "Sodom und Gomorrha." This introduction to music for film eventually led Kaz to the University of Southern California graduate program in Advanced Film and Television Scoring. While at USC, Kaz studied under legends Elmer Bernstein, David Raksin, Leonard Rosenman and Christopher Young. He scored numerous student films and gained a reputation as a trusted musical collaborator.

Kaz then joined Hans Zimmer's team at Remote Control (fka Media Ventures), where he absorbed - first as a technical assistant and later as a coordinator and arranger - an invaluable education in film composition technique, scene interpretation, and a broad knowledge of musical technology. His experience in Zimmer's tech world led to opportunities working for James Newton Howard, Thomas Newman and John Frizzell.

In 2002 Kazimir opened Flash Music, LLC, his own studio in Hollywood. Since then he has been busy with myriad freelance projects: independent
feature films, network TV, cable TV MOWs, commercials, artistic short films and concert music.

Kaz has had many opportunities to work as a support composer and arranger with the best in the business, including: musical luminary Quincy Jones, Golden Globe/Grammy winner Craig Armstrong, James Dooley, Michael Levine and Trevor Morris.

Kaz continues to compose concert music, including multiple commissions from the Definiens Project, a Los Angeles based chamber ensemble.
